Progress in Place:
From Power Building to Project Implementation
Event Summary
The 2024 SGC Catalyst Conference: Progress in Place: From Power Building to Project Implementation is a transformative event to be held on February 1-2, 2024 at the California Natural Resources Building in Sacramento, California. With historic investment through the Inflation Reduction Act and California’s Climate Budget, this year’s event will build on last year’s efforts to promote community and local capacity, while anticipating challenges associated with project development and implementation.
Frontline leaders, researchers, funders, and government partners currently leading this work will convene to learn from one another, prioritize areas of future focus, advance projects, and celebrate transformation already underway. Sessions will reflect both the urgency to make place-based investments that center and support disinvested communities and the speed at which federal and state funds are being deployed.
Agenda
Day 1 Theme: Preparing for Project Implementation
Recent years have witnessed unprecedented levels of State and federal funding intended to address worsening climate-related challenges, particularly those facing historically marginalized and disadvantaged communities. Day 1 explores how individuals and organizations can work across the climate investment landscape to support, implement, and maintain projects that generate meaningful and equitable community benefits. Focus areas include:
- Prioritizing capacity building and technical assistance for project development and implementation to successfully apply for and implement funding for climate resiliency projects.
- Advancing replicable strategies and sharing resources to access finance and capital investment to advance climate equity.
Day 2 Theme: Sustaining Community Benefits
While historic, the public climate funding available currently is insufficient to meet long-term needs. Day 2 explores what is required to support communities and organizations sustain efforts toward equitable climate resilience now and in the future.
- Sustaining community benefits across social and physical infrastructure funding, administered under the Biden-Harris Justice40 initiative, the California Climate budget, & beyond
- Identify actionable, creative strategies to achieve project outcomes within current funding environment and focus.
